Both positions are part of a project within a new SFB (Special Research Area) on information structure. The project's title is 'Rhetorical structure in spoken language'. It deals with the interaction of the rhetorical structure of texts with the prosodic features of spoken discourse. During the first three years the research will focus on German. One position is for a linguist interested in the phonology-semantics- pragmatics interface. The research involves two main areas: (1) theoretical and experimental examination of prosodic phenomena resulting from the interaction between discourse structure and information structure (such as deaccentuation); and (2) analysis and modeling of phonological aspects of discourse prosody. The other position is to be filled by a linguist interested in experimental phonetics and corpus analysis in the context of discourse prosody. The position involves data acquisition and corpus design, implementation of phonetic analyses on large speech corpora, and experiments on the production and perception of discourse prosodic features. Knowledge of German is necessary for both positions. Earliest start is July 1st, 2003.
