Abstract:
			
This is the first contrastive grammar and at the same time a
comprehensive description of Islander, the English-based creole of San
Andr�s and Providence. The contrastive approach and especially the
inclusion of three languages is motivated by the educational needs of
the speech community. In addition to the grammar part, this book
includes a theoretical introduction, a presentation of the phonetic
and graphematic systems of Islander and a study of the occurrence and
vitality of lexical Africanisms.
