Description:

The University of Manchester invites applications for the post of
Temporary Lecturer in Linguistics which is tenable for one year from 1
September 2003. Applications will be considered from those
specializing in any branch of linguistics; preference may be given to
candidates whose research relates to one or more of the following:
sociolinguistics, sociology of language, pragmatics, discourse
analysis. Salary will be �22,191 p.a.

The appointed candidate will be expected to contribute to research and
teaching (both undergraduate and postgraduate) in the Department of
Linguistics, and to undertake such administrative, pastoral and other
duties as may be assigned.

Candidates should have:

(A. Essential)
1. a strong commitment to high-quality, research-led teaching.
2. strong research potential and the proven capacity to contribute to
 a department of international research excellence.
3. a completed (or about to be completed) PhD in any area of
 linguistics.

(B. Desirable)
1. a research record and plans which relate to one or more of the
 following: sociolinguistics, sociology of language, pragmatics,
 discourse analysis.
2. excellent presentational skills necessary for lectures, seminars
 and small group teaching.
3. good organizational skills appropriate to departmental teaching and
 administration.
4. good IT skills.

give a presentation of their work to members of the Department.
