University or Organization: Harvard Department: Judge Baker Children's Center Rank of Job: Researcher Specialty Areas: Cognitive Science, Language Acquisition, Neurolinguistics, Psycholinguistics, Psychology, Speech Pathology, Child Development, Child Language Acquisition Required Language(s): Spanish (Code = SPN) Description: Native Spanish Speaking Volunteer Research Assistant Harvard Project on Language and Child Psychiatry - Volunteer position on a research project supported by a 5-year National Institute of Mental Health research grant. - Bilingual research assistants conduct child and family evaluations; score, enter and analyze data; and assist in various tasks part of the project's daily operations. Research assistants work closely with research coordinator. - Evaluations include testing (extensive child language assessment in both Spanish and English; cognitive and achievement testing), diagnostic psychiatric interviews, and administration of questionnaires/surveys (for emotional/behavioral problems, and sociodemographic, acculturation, immigration and other risk factors and variables). Training will be provided. - Start date: early summer (flexible). - One-year commitment minimum. - Minimum 16 hours per week; higher availability is highly desirable. Schedule is generally flexible. This position is ideal for someone: - Strongly interested in research and possibly empirical publications (data available now). - Interested in obtaining experience in developmental language and psychological/psychiatric research, planning to apply for graduate studies. Requirements: - Enrolled in program for or obtained bachelor's degree in: psychology, speech pathology, child development, child language acquisition or related field (master's or doctoral degrees desirable but not required). - Spanish/English bilingual, native Spanish speaker. - Excellent computer skills. Preferred but not required: - Experience with test administration (psychological, language), or in psychiatric, developmental and/or language research. - Bachelor's degree or higher.
