AESTE is a professional and creative association of teachers of English across Russia. The Association's aim is to promote the teaching and studying of the English language and literature, science and culture of the English-speaking world and maintain close contacts with Russian and overseas partner associations. The Conference POLYPHONY OF EDUCATION AND ENGLISH STUDIES IN THE MULTI-CULTURAL WORLD is to be held on November, 25-26, 2003 at Moscow State Linguistic University. Among the guest speakers are D. Cunningham, President of FIPLV (Federation Internationale des Professeurs de Langues Vivantes) and representatives of other well-known international and Russian linguistic associations. The Conference subthemes are: 1. Cognitive and functional foundations of cross-cultural communication. 2. Sociolinguistics, language instruction and new information technologies in education. 3. Development of cross -cultural competence and second language/culture identity The working languages of the conference are English and Russian. The Conference materials will be published. Abstract Submission Conference participants should submit abstracts of their papers and presentations for review by 15 July 2003. The abstracts should meet the following technical requirements: a) Length - 1 A4 (21x29.7cm) page; Microsoft Word Document; font - Times New Roman, 14 points; 1,5 spacing, portrait layout, RTF... b) Please provide at the beginning of the abstract the author's full name, affiliation (name and country of institution), title of the paper, and at the end - contact e-mail address/telephone number/fax/postal address; c) The abstract can be written either in English or Russian. Thematic areas: Specialized translation, translator/interpreter training, professional translation and the language industries, information and communication technology in translation, the interpreting market, code of professional conduct in translation, translation and technology, translator and interpreter associations. CALL FOR PAPERS CALL DEADLINE: 15-OCT-2003 INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRESENTERS 1) Types of presentation - papers (20 min. plus 10 min. for discussion) - extended papers (60 min.) - workshops (90 min.) 2) Selection Process Proposals will be assessed anonymously and priority will be given to abstracts that best identify with the conference theme ''Quality in Translation - Academic and Professional Perspectives'', although other topics are also very welcome. 3) Submission guidelines - The paper submitted should not have been previously published. - Presentation proposals should be sent both in paper format and diskette (MS Word or RTF) or by e-mail to the Conference Secretariat by October 15th, 2003. - Notification of acceptance will be sent via e-mail by December 15th, 2003. - Proposals should include information on the presentation and the speaker (Use form enclosed). Author contact details, abstract (250 words max.) and biodata (100 words max.) should be attached in separate documents. - Abstracts must be submitted in both English and the language of presentation (if the presentation language is not English) 4. Official Conference languages Spanish and English are the official conference languages. Presentations in other languages are acceptable although presenters should bear in mind that the conference organisers will not provide simultaneous interpreting service. 5.
