Subject: Summary: Linguistics videos

Some time ago I posted a query (Linguist 14.1401) regarding
sociolinguistics videos produced by Insight Media, asking if anyone
had any experience with any of them and could evaluate them. I haven't
posted a summary till now because I was hoping for more responses. But
I have given up waiting.

It appears that the only person actualy familiar with any of the
vidoes is Seran Dogancay-Aktuna, who sent the following commentary:

I have used the * ones in my Language and Society class and I think
they are all quite useful to supplement textbooks and class
discussions. I do not have a particular preference and cannot tell you
which one out of the three you list for each category is my favorite.
Yet, both my students and I like the more current videos (some of the
ones our library has date back to the 80s) and those that are made for
an academic audience rather than for diversity training in the
workplace. So, my advice would be for you to check the targeted
audience before purchasing them.

I also received a message from Alice Horning regarding the Story of
English videos.

I would like to thank the people who took the time to respond.
