QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master's degree in Deaf Education or equivalent. Demonstrated near native fluency in sign languages, especially American Sign Language (ASL). Demonstrated commitment of the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college. Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of students, faculty or staff from mulit-cultural backgrounds. Successful candidate must complete the course EDU 250-The Community College within two years or initial employment or submit an official transcript indicating successful completion of a similar course at another college. Preferred: graduate of interpreter Training Program, certification at state or national level, and prior ASL teaching experience and curriculum development experience at the community college level. Note: This is a professional administrative position, reporting to the coordinator of Services for Student with Disabilities (SSD) and the Division Chair of Modern Languages. TYPICAL DUTIES: Interpret for deaf students in classes and case management outside of class with deaf students including academic advising, provide support for full-time and associate faculty, and establish and maintain relationships with the district's educational partners. Teach 12-18 equated load hours/year (fall, spring, and/or summer), dependent on interpreter duties. May teach evenings and/or weekends utilizing non-traditional delivery methods, e.g. Interactive Television or accelerated modules. Position may serve off-campus sites. Attend and participate in faculty meetings. Design and develop ASL curriculum. Provide support for associate faculty. Assist in assessment and placement of students in appropriate ASL classes. Participate in student recruitment, placement, advisement, curriculum development and serve on college committees. Identify student learning outcomes: develop processes and tools for assessment; incorporate results in order to modify instruction and materials in general education, degree program course cluster, and/or certificate program in coordination with colleagues.
