University or Organization: University of Arizona Department: Department of Anthropology Rank of Job: Assistant Professor Specialty Areas: Linguistic Anthropology Description: Assistant Professor, Anthropology The University of Arizona Department of Anthropology invites applications for a tenure-track position in linguistic anthropology at the Assistant Professor level, to begin in the fall of 2004, contingent upon availability of funding. The Ph.D. in Anthropology or related field is required, as is a demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and research. The area of specialization is open. However, we are particularly interested in hearing from applicants with research and teaching interests in political, aesthetic and/or affective dimensions of verbal art, in language socialization, and in pidgins and creoles. For these specializations we are especially interested in identifying applicants who have carried out ethnographic research in the Middle East, the Caribbean, or Sub-Saharan Africa. Review of materials is currently ongoing and will continue until the position is filled. Initial review began September 1, 2003.
