Dear all- my name is Susana, and I'm currently working on my dissertation for my PhD in English Linguistics. I just started reading about this approach called Communication Linguistics, and I'm really interested in learning about its theoretical basis and also about its applications so far. I'm working on a cross-cultural analysis of situational irony in the TV show ''The Simpsons''. I am aware of the work of Elisa Asp and Michael Gregory, but that's basically as much as I've been able to find. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for references that I can look for. Thank you so much for your help. Hi! I'm looking for books on the evolution of language due to the recent spurt of technology, specifically on how paging, text messaging, and e-mailing have inadvertently created a new language (e.g. ''brb,'' ''lol'' ''cya''). I've read Naomi Baron's ''Alphabet to E-mail,'' but was hoping for a more specific book that not only deals with the changing English language, but if possible, social and cultural ramifications. Thank you!Mail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issue
