University or Organization: Oregon Health & Science University Department: CS Dept., Center for Human-Computer Communica Rank of Job: Researcher Specialty Areas: Cognitive Science, Computational Linguistics, Applied Linguistics Required Language(s): English (Code = ENG) Description: Research Associate Position Applications are invited for a research associate position on a new research project that is modeling aspects of multimodal interaction and human performance, as well as designing and prototyping new multimodal systems. Project research areas include user modeling of multimodal interaction, user/system learning and adaptive multimodal processing, collaborative multimodal interaction, multimodal dialogue and processing techniques, mobile and multimodal-multisensor interface design, and other topics. Applicants are encouraged to apply who have a masters degree in a relevant field (Experimental Psychology/Cognitive Science, Linguistics/Computational Linguistics, Computer Science & Engineering), plus at least 2 years of work experience. Applicants should have extensive experience testing human subjects, analyzing human language and performance, doing statistical analysis, and working in the area of human-computer interaction and interface design. Extensive experience also needed with basic office software for text processing, spreadsheets, preparation of talks, and publication-quality graphics. Skills that include quantitative modeling of data, speech signal analysis and use of related software (e.g., Praat) also highly desirable. Applicants with experience participating in multidisciplinary team-oriented research are especially encouraged. This work is being conducted in a state-of-the-art laboratory facility at the Center for Human-Computer Communication (CHCC) at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), just west of the Portland, OR metropolitan area. Priority will be given to applications received by Oct. 15th, 2003, although positions will remain open until filled. Salary range and benefits are competitive.
