University or Organization: Southern Illinois University Carbondale in Niigata Department: Intensive English Department Rank of Job: Teacher Specialty Areas: Teaching English as a Second Language Description: Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in Niigata (Japan) is seeking 2 full-time instructors to teach in the Intensive English Program starting March 8, 2004. TERM: One short-term contract (between � and � of a year) and one long-term contract (approx. one year) will be offered. Both contracts may be extendable. QUALIFICATIONS: MA in TEFL/TESL/TESOL, Linguistics or related field and experience teaching ESL/EFL in an academic setting. The working environment features aspects of both an American university and a Japanese business; cooperation is essential. Candidates must also be flexible regarding participation in school events and activities. Some experience with Japanese learning and teaching styles will be helpful. DUTIES: Teach English language classes in an intensive coordinated program. Class load is 20 hours a week. Instructors are also expected to hold 5 office hours a week, attend faculty meetings and participate in occasional school/dorm events and recruitment activities. SALARY & BENEFITS: 300,000 yen per month (about $ 2,700 at the exchange rate of $1.00 = 110 yen). Free housing near campus, subsidized health insurance, paid vacation and holidays, relocation allowance of 150,000 yen, contract completion bonus.
