Purpose: To help support travel (and some expenses) of 6 graduate student members of American Assoc. Applied Ling to the 2004 annual meeting in Portland, Oregon. Eligibility: Applicants must be current members of AAAL (at time of application) who are in a university Master's or Ph.D. program in applied linguistics or a related field. Amount: A maximum of 6 awards will be given: $800.00. Application Procedure: Only online applications will be accepted. Go to http://www.aaal.org/aaal2004/ Applications must include the following information: (a) Your institution and program of study; (b) Your recent/current contributions to the field of applied linguistics; (c) Your career plans after completion of degree program; (d) Your current financial situation, including your university's contribution to conference travel; (e) How conference attendance will benefit you and others; (f) A biographical statement; and (g) Contact information. Applicants should also provide the name of a current professor who has agreed to provide a recommendation when contacted by AAAL. That letter should state the professor's estimation of the applicant�Euro(tm)s (a) academic work and promise in the field of applied linguistics; (b) personal attributes relevant to a career in applied linguistics; and (c) level of need for financial assistance. Deadline: Applications must be submitted by January 5, 2004.
