University or Organization: The State University of New York at Buffalo Department: Romance Languages and Literatures Rank of Job: Rank Open Specialty Areas: Hispanic Linguistics Required Language(s): Spanish (Code = SPN) Description: The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at The State University of New York at Buffalo announces an open-rank tenure-track (pending approval) position in Hispanic Linguistics. Appointee will teach courses and direct theses in area of specialization at the graduate and undergraduate major level as well as teach occasional courses in the Gen Ed curriculum (including language courses as the need may arise). Expertise in Optimality Theory, second language acquisition theory and sociolinguistic variation is desirable. Appointee will teach foundational courses in Spanish phonology, syntax, sociolinguistics, history of the language, and dialectology. Appointee will work to expand enrollments in the majors and graduate levels, to increase external funding, and to devise and promote interdisciplinary degree programs at the BA and MA levels. Appointee will share in administrative duties related to the programs. Candidates must 1) hold the Ph.D. or equivalent degree in an appropriate area of Hispanic linguistics, 2) possess native or near-native fluency in Spanish with a language base which is both Peninsular and Latin American (additional Romance language is desirable), 3) have a demonstrable commitment to scholarship and excellence in teaching.
