I would like to know where I can find a family tree of the Afroasiatic Family or at least the Semitic Subfamily - tracing back to Protosemitic. I would also like to find some examples of comparative analysis that shows the connections among members of the Semitic subfamily, and also the connections between Semitic subfamily and the other members of the Afroasiatic Family. Dear colleagues I am currently working on a study of word-formation processes in English. In this connection, I have come across a number of extremely rare words the stress patterns of which I cannot determine. These words are: alkarsin andradite butoxide dehydrogenatum ecdysis electrophoresis embourgeoisement imipramine luteosteron oxime palmitate peridine pyrethrin Can anybody (i) point me to references which provide the stress patterns of these (and similarly infrequent and specialised) words; (ii) give me a clue as to how which of the syllables of each word is stressed? Thanks a lot! Stefan Th. GriesMail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issue
