28 of November, 2003, the great Russian linguist Jurij Semenovich Martem'janov died from the nephritic disease, in the age of 73 years, 3 months and 16 days, in Moscow. Prof. Martem'janov was born on the 12 of August, 1930, in Vjatka. He was a most brilliant Russian scholar in the field of transformational grammar, deep syntax, deep semantics, functional sentence perspective, text linguistics and artificial inelligence. Also, he was a most bright Russian proponent of generative syntax and generative semantics. His articles on these topics (especially on the problems of deep semantics) have made a great influence on the Russian works in this field. Best regards, Sergej A.
