There's a piece in the technology section of the New York Times online, dated December 11, 2003, that reports on a new system for reducing noise in hearing aids, based on the structure of a fly's hearing mechanism. This should have implications for all kinds of speech-related applications, e.g. speech recognition, recording field data, and so on. The article is entitled: For Hearing Aids, a Lesson From a Fly on the Wall by Anne Eisenberg The URL: http://www.nytimes.com/2003/12/11/technology/circuits/11next.html?8cir [You must be a registered New York Times Member--its free] Karen Steffen Chung http://ccms.ntu.edu.tw/~karchung/ http://www.topica.com/lists/phonetics/Mail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issue
