University or Organization: Louisiana State University Department: French Studies Rank of Job: Research Assistantship Specialty Areas: Sociolinguistics, Culture and Civilization Required Language(s): English (Code = ENG); French (Code = FRN) Description: LSU French Studies Announces A New Economic Development Assistantship $25,000 yearly for study of French tourism in Louisiana The Department of French Studies at Louisiana State University, located in Baton Rouge [approximately 70 miles northwest of New Orleans], is pleased to announce a one-time-only research assistantship to be awarded to a new doctoral student who will study French tourism in Louisiana from a sociolinguistic perspective. Funding is provided by LSU in recognition of French tourism as an important bilingual industry which promotes Louisiana's unique French cultural and language heritage. Funding includes $25,000 annually for four years for a total award of $100,000, beginning in the academic year 2004-2005; a tuition waiver and/or tuition supplement is also expected to accompany the award. Co-directors of the assistantship are Dr. Sylvie Dubois(Chair) and Dr. Jack Yeager (Associate Chair). Students who are awarded an assistantship must maintain a 3.5 overall and semester GPA.
