6th International Conference on Translation Distance Teaching of Translation and Languages Departament de Traducci i d'Interpretaci Universitat Autnoma de Barcelona 10-12 May 2004 http://www.fti.uab.es/congres2004 cg.traduccio2004Mail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issueuab.es The development of communication and information technology has allowed us to overcome two barriers that we had been unable to break for centuries: time and space. The need to translate has grown with the elimination of these restrictions, and this has pushed translation and language education to new ways of communicating. All over the planet, we now have access to a wide range of opportunities presented to us from far-away locations, and the university must also find its place in this new global order. At the 6th International Conference on Translation, we wish to debate the challenges faced by universities which offer courses to students who do not attend class on campus in the traditional way, in particular in the teaching of translation and languages for translators. We also wish to debate the advantages and drawbacks associated with the application of information and communication technology to distance education in these areas. Thus, the general lines of the Conference will be: - Distance teaching of translation (curricular design, methodology, and practical experiences) - Distance teaching of languages for translators (curricular design, methodology, and practical experiences) - Distance teaching of translation tools (software) (curricular design, methodology, and practical experiences) - Methodological considerations in distance education (pedagogic models, role of the professor, type of interaction, type of learning) - Technical aspects of distance education (platforms, communication and learning tools, production tools) Call for Papers We invite researchers to present papers along the general lines of the Conference or on other subjects related with the distance teaching of translation and languages for translators. Abstract Submission The deadline for submitting paper abstracts is September 30, 2003. Abstracts can have a maximum of 300 words, and may be written in any of the four conference languages (Catalan, Spanish, English, French). Abstracts should be sent by electronic mail to the address listed above. The author's name and affiliation, postal and electronic addresses, telephone and fax numbers must be included in the document. A list of the accepted papers will be sent to all applicants on December 1, 2003 by electronic mail.
