University or Organization: Stony Brook University Department: Linguistics Rank of Job: Visiting Assistant Professor or Lecturer Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics, TESOL Description: The Department of Linguistics invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Lecturer to assist with the teacher education program. Candidates should have a doctoral degree (for the Visiting Assistant Professor position) or master's degree (for the Visiting Lecturer position) in linguistics or a related field; New York State certification or the equivalent in the teaching of English as a Second Language (pre-K through 12); and experience in teacher education, assessment, student teacher supervision, and ESL teaching. Desirable qualifications include research experience in a field related to ESL teaching and knowledge of accreditation procedures. Responsibilities may include any of the following: supervision of student teachers in the public schools, and courses on the undergraduate and graduate levels, such as Methods of TESOL, Second Language Acquisition, Bilingualism, and Student Teaching Seminar. The term of appointment will be one year beginning Fall 2003, with a possibility of renewal. Please send a curriculum vitae and 3 letters of recommendation to Prof. Ellen Broselow.
