Meeting Description:

linguistique. This colloquium aims to gather scholars working in
various approaches in order to compare Saussure's work with
contemporary research in linguistics.

This colloquium, organized as a tribute to Ren Amacker's contribution
during his career in the University of Geneva, aims to gather various
scholars in order to consider Saussure's work from the context of
current scientific research on language. Ferdinand de Saussure had a
great influence in the domains of epistemology and methodologies in
linguistics and social science in general. Seen as the origin of the
stucturalist trend, the "Course of General Linguistics" provides the
foundations for semiology, further developed by numerous scholars in
various fields in the humanities and social sciences, from
Levi-Strauss' structural anthropology to Lacan's psychanalysis. Often
misunderstood, misinterpreted, pulled towards more or less legitimate
consequences, Saussure's contribution had to be considered in relation
with contemporary paradigms.
