University or Organization: University of Alberta Department: Department of Linguistics Rank of Job: Sessional Instructor Specialty Areas: Semantics, Syntax, Description: Sessional Instructor Department of Linguistics, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada July 1, 2003 to June 31, 2005 The Department of Linguistics at the University of Alberta has an opening for a Sessional Instructor position, commencing 1 July 2003. This is a full-time, 24-month appointment. This position will be appointed under a Sessional Contract at the University of Alberta and will teach 6 courses (5 undergraduate courses and 1 graduate seminar OR 6 undergraduate courses. The University of Alberta has 4 terms two 13-week terms (Sept to Dec and Jan to Apr) and two 6-week terms (May to June and July to Aug). The ideal candidate will hold a PhD degree and will be able to teach a range of courses in linguistics. Specialization in syntax and semantics is particularly desirable. Courses to be taught in 2003-04 include LING 401 Semantics and LING 309 Syntax and Semantics. This position will be attractive to a junior colleague who has recently completed the PhD and is seeking to expand his/her teaching experience in a research-intensive collegial environment. Faculty members in the Department are currently engaged in a number of research projects in bilingual language acquisition and impairment, psycholinguistic and neurolinguistic aspects of the mental lexicon, experimental phonetics, the morphosyntax of native languages of the Americas, corpus linguistics and phonological theory. Applications will be accepted until April 21, 2003. The starting salary will be $49,188 (Canadian) per annum.
