Dick Hudson is an Advisor on the LINGUIST List Advisory Board; please take a moment to read his personal message. Dear Linguists, How many restaurants or email lists offer the services you get at the LINGUIST List? a. Moderation - just think what you *don't* see, and thank the staff for filtering it out - political tracts, flaming, etc. b. Digestion - different packages to suit different appetites, and every item carefully listed on the menu; deletion has never been so easy. c. Retention - in case you're that way inclined, relax. They do it for you. You don't need to clog up your system with old messages when they're all archived centrally. d. Information - the server knows everything you want to know about linguistics. And when did you last go to a restaurant without paying for it? Dear Linguists, On LINGUIST, we like to thank the people who support us - and what better way to show our deepest gratitude than to send you a free gift! And this year is no exception. We have some great gifts for you to choose from; if you would like to see some photos of our crew modelling these highly fasionable items, visit: http://linguistlist.org/premiums.html This year, because we have a Food and Cooking theme for the fund drive, we have published Volume 1 of The LINGUIST List Cookbook, and we have also produced a matching apron. The complete list of gifts available this year is: The LINGUIST List Cookbook The LINGUIST List Cook Apron Cookbook and Apron Combo Baby T-shirt T-Shirt - available in S, M, L and X-L Tote Bag Please help us with our fund drive and make a donation, we will send you one of these lovely gifts if you do. And on a connected note, here's a copy of a letter we received from one of our donors. Rebecca was one of a 'small group' who nagged us about not having gifts in size small - her support certainly isn't small and we are glad to offer a wider range of sizes. Thank you for allowing us to print this Rebecca. ************** Dear Friends, Enclosed is my check for $100 toward the maintenance of the List. Please send me one of the "tote bags" Gosh, I don't like the name of these things! Wonder how this entered the language? Where I come from, we tote things, but we don't call what we do it with a "tote bag"!! Oh well, whatever they are, they are handy, and the LL's one is very attractive! Keep up the good work. A long-time fan. Becky (Rebecca Larche Moreton) P.S. I love my size "small" t-shirt from last year, and am very much gratified to notice that y'all are now offering smalls to everybody - don't let anybody say that one person's voice can't make an effect! ************************************************************** This year we need to raise $50,000 to keep LINGUIST alive. So far we have raised $13,556.33 which is really good - but we still have a long way to go. Please make a donation; every little helps. To donate now using our secure web form, visit: http://linguistlist.org/donate.html For instructions on how to donate, or how to make a pledge now and pay later, see the last massage in this issue or visit: http://linguistlist.org/donation.html Thank you for keeping LINGUIST alive.Mail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issue
This year we hope to raise $50,000 to support the students who work on LINGUIST List and keep the list running. Thank you from all the crew for your support. The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered 501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor. Many companies also offer a gift matching scheme, such that they will match any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if your company operates such a scheme. HOW TO DONATE You can make a contribution by selecting one of three convenient payment methods: secure credit card form, check, or wire transfer. You can also PLEDGE your support to LINGUIST and pay later, i.e. send in a check. Also, if you do not want to use a credit card, but wish to pay in a currency other than US Dollars, you can donate via our European bank account held in Switzerland.
