Dear Subscribers, Thank you so much for your support of the LINGUIST List! One of my responsibilities at LINGUIST is the editing of Ask-a-Linguist. Ask-a-Linguist is a non-academic, family-friendly linguistic service that makes it possible for everyone from professional linguists to 'ordinary people' with questions of a linguistic nature to have their questions seriously considered. We have a distinguished panel of over 50 professional linguists who daily address questions from all linguistic disciplines. (They deserve a HUGE round of applause!) We are currently making some changes to Ask-a-Linguist to make it even more user-friendly, enjoyable, and efficient. On a personal note, I am a student at Wayne State University. I am working on an MA in linguistics (Language Variation and Change). I have been working with LINGUIST for a year and a half, and will forever be indebted for the experience I have gained, the support I have received, and the people I have had the opportunity to meet and with whom I have become friends. Aside from my studies and my work with LINGUIST, I am the proud mother of the oldest Baby Linguist T-Shirt model, wife to a supremely supportive husband, and a lover of world travel and different cultures. Once again, thank you so much for supporting the LINGUIST List and its crew! Sincerely, Renee Galvis ********************************************************** This year we need to raise $50,000 to keep LINGUIST alive. So far we have raised $16,278.33. Dear Subscribers, Thank you so much for your support! As I am sure you have been reading throughout the fund drive, each of your dollars goes to support graduate students as well as the up-keep and development of the website. I don't know about you, but when I am giving money to people, I like to know where my money is going. Therefore, since I am one of the recipients of your support, I want to tell you a little bit about myself. I have been working with LINGUIST for a year and a half, and during that time my duties have primarily been posting Calls, Conferences, and managing Ask-a-Linguist; however, I am currently working with Ask-a-Linguist and posting Queries. I am a graduate student at Wayne State University - working on an MA in linguistics (Language Variation and Change). Outside of academia, I am the mother of a beautiful and kind 14 month-old son. (He just happens to be one of the illustrious Baby Linguist t-shirt models - the biggest one!) In my free time (which I have very little of), I enjoy traveling with my husband and son, scrapbooking, gardening, jogging, meeting new people & learning about new cultures... Fun! Fun! Since I am currently 3 classes and a master's essay away from graduation, I really have little time for these things, but I do manage to squeeze a little of it in! Work hard - play hard! Again, thank you for your support of LINGUIST, and the support you have given me. Sincerely, Renee Galvis To see and read more about Renee, please go to: http://www.linguistlist.org/people/renee.html ******************************************************************* For detailed information on making a donation, please read the next message in this issue, or visit: http://linguistlist.org/donation.html Once again, thank you from all the LINGUIST List crew.Mail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issue
This year we hope to raise $50,000 to support the students who work on LINGUIST List and keep the list running. Thank you from all the crew for your support. The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered 501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor. Many companies also offer a gift matching scheme, such that they will match any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if your company operates such a scheme. HOW TO DONATE You can make a contribution by selecting one of three convenient payment methods: secure credit card form, check, or wire transfer. You can also PLEDGE your support to LINGUIST and pay later, i.e. send in a check. Also, if you do not want to use a credit card, but wish to pay in a currency other than US Dollars, you can donate via our European bank account held in Switzerland.
