Dear Linguists,

LINGUIST is dedicated to supporting all aspects of linguistic
studies. The Teaching and Learning area, located at:

http://linguistlist.org/teach/index.html

focuses on highlighting resources for the study of linguistics and
languages geared toward students of all ages. Those looking to further
their education can browse our database of linguistics programs, which
currently has over 860 listings throughout the world. Courses and
Syllabi includes descriptions of linguistics courses in all areas of
study. The section listing Exercises and Aids has links to some fun
linguistics activities for children, as well as useful learning and
informational aids for more advanced students, such as the Online
Language Laboratory which provides complete pronunciation guides to
several languages along with the ability to hear the spoken sounds.

Language learning resources are also listed, including 142 links for
English language learning (TESOL, ESL, EFL), and 100 links to other
language learning resources. Resources for the teacher and sutdent are
listed, as well as computer resources for language learning and a
listing of programs at schools and universities for the language
learner. The Software section includes links to software for language
learning and linguistics, such as the Verbix verb conjugation program
which focuses on verb inflections for over 40 languages.

I'm sure you will agree that the Teaching and Learning area has
something for everyone interested in Linguistics. Be sure to check it
out!

Thank you for your support!

Best regards,

Naomi Fox

Dear Subcribers,

As one of the babies in the LINGUIST crew, I haven't quite figured out
what my job is yet. I met one of our moderators, Dr. Aristar, through
a class he was teaching in the fall of 2002 at Wayne State
University. He mentioned LINGUIST, and was doomed from that point,
since I hounded him mercilessly until he let me join up last month. So
far, I feel like I'm learning how to figure out which person will know
the answer to whatever my current question happens to be. The
operation at LINGUIST is amazingly complex and continually
expanding. The expertise of the crew is equally amazing and complex,
yet in the true tradition of linguists, they are friendly and helpful,
even when I make really stupid mistakes. I have already learned much
more than I expected about the LINGUIST structure, website, and a bit
of programming. I look forward to being a worthwhile contributor to
LINGUIST's efforts supporting the linguistic community.

I began courses toward my M.A. in Linguistics last fall, and love
every minute of my studies. Working for LINGUIST is a wonderful
opportunity for me to be in the middle of the "action" in the field of
linguistics, and allows me to explore in depth an area of immense
interest to me: how to use technology to support and simplify the
efforts of linguists in every area of study. LINGUIST actively pursues
efforts to harness technology in the service of linguistics.

Thank you so much for your support of LINGUIST! Your generosity makes
it possible for students like me to gain invaluable experience while
participating in projects which benefit the entire field of
linguistics.

Message 3: How to Donate and the LINGUIST List Hall of Fame

Date: Sun, 30 Mar 2003 22:32:40 +0000
From: linguist <linguistlinguistlist.org>
Subject: How to Donate and the LINGUIST List Hall of Fame

This year we hope to raise $50,000 to support the students who work on
LINGUIST List and keep the list running. Thank you from all the crew
for your support.

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University
and as such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is
a registered 501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number
is 38-6005986. These donations can be offset against your federal and
sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more
information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching scheme, such that they will
match any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this
entails your contacting your human resources department and sending us
a form that the EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer.
This is generally a simple administrative procedure that doubles the
value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an extra
penny. Please take a moment to check if your company operates such a
scheme.
