The Department is one of the leading centres for Hispanic Studies in Australia, with a strong record in research publication and postgraduate completions. The successful applicant will be expected to teach Spanish language at all levels, as well as making a major contribution to the teaching of aspects of Hispanic culture, in such areas as literature, film, translation and interpreting, or cultural studies. The successful applicant will be expected to make a significant contribution towards the department's research profile, and will be expected to supervise BA Hons and Postgraduate research students. Essential criteria: a PhD in some aspect of Spanish language and linguistic studies or of Hispanic cultural studies; native or near- native competence in both Spanish and English; experience in the development, coordination and management of Spanish as a foreign language courses at the university level; proven successful experience as a language teacher at tertiary level; proven successful experience in teaching other aspects of Hispanic Studies at the university level; sound record of research and publications including refereed academic publications appropriate to opportunity; proven capacity to work as a team member within a multicultural context; willingness and ability to supervise Honours and Postgraduate research projects; evidence of successful interaction with relevant professionals and organisations; an understanding of equity and diversity principles; knowledge of OHS responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant OHS training. Desirable criteria: capacity to contribute to teaching in interdepartmental programs such as Linguistics, Translation and Interpreting, or International Studies. The salary range is A$60,304 - A$71,050 (US$ 46,000 - 55 000) per year depending on qualifications and experience. This salary includes a superable UNSW academic loading of A$3,000 per annum payable to all academic staff (pro rata for fractional academic staff). This is a full time continuing position, available from 1 July 2004. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment.
