University or Organization: Wayne State University Department: Linguistics Rank of Job: Post Doc Specialty Areas: Language Acquisition, Phonetics, Phonology Required Language(s): English (Code = ENG); Spanish (Code = SPN) Description: The Audiology and Speech Language Pathology Department, the Romance Languages Department and the Linguistics Program at Wayne State University are looking for a qualified Post-Doctoral researcher with expertise in the acquisition of prosody by English- and Spanish speaking children. Knowledge of TOBi trancription system and statistical analysis preferred. The Post-Doctoral candidate will be working on a research project with Jean Andruski, Eugenia Casielles and Geoff Nathan. This project aims at collecting, analyzing and making publicly available a set of high-quality audio baseline data on the use of prosody by monolingual English and Spanish children. The collection of data is already under way and the candidate is expected to phonetically transcribe spontaneous child and adult speech, analyze selected portions of data for characteristics related to rhythm and intonation, participate in grant writing, and supervise a research graduate student. This position is initially for one year with a second year renewal possible, and starts in August 2004. Salary: $33,000 plus associated benefits and a travel allowance.
