University or Organization: Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh Department: Speech and Language Sciences Rank of Job: Researcher Specialty Areas: Phonetics, Clinical Linguistics Description: CLEFTNET UK PROJECT The CLEFTNET UK project builds on the success of previous work to help morechildren with cleft palate benefit from Electropalatography (EPG) diagnosis and therapy. The project will extend the Scottish EPG network to include eight additional sites in England. The project will include children who have long standing articulation disorders associated with cleft palate and who previously have not had access to EPG therapy. This exciting new work is funded by charitable donations from BBC Children in Need and the Henry Smith Charity. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Research Assistant �18,265 - �20,311 per annum Fixed Term Duties will include: organising and participating in running EPG workshops; assisting in developing the CLEFTNET UK speech protocol; liasing with specialist speech and language therapists to establish new EPG centres; and working with an IT specialist to set up a computer network, where each centre is linked electronically to Queen Margaret University College. The successful candidate should ideally have an interest in and demonstrable knowledge about instrumental analysis of speech, research methods and some experience of data collection and analysis. A clinical qualification as a speech and language therapist would be desirable. Ref: SLS120/04/26 ------------------------------------------------------------------ Information Technology Development Officer �19,633 - �21,733 per annum pro rata Fixed Term The successful candidate will provide technical IT development expertise to the proposed establishment of CLEFTNET UK. Duties will include: writing software that will facilitate and automate transfer of speech data via an electronic computer network; liase with specialist clinicians and IT specialists in the NHS in order to ensure that the project operates effectively; and document software, hardware/network configuration, project strategy and training materials to facilitate future project support and development. The post holder would be expected to be actively involved in training specialist speech and language therapists to use the CLEFTNET UK software. Knowledge about IT in the NHS is desirable.
