University or Organization: Princeton University Department: Psychology / SEARCH PW Rank of Job: Researcher Specialty Areas: Morphology, WordNet Description: The Cognitive Science Laboratory in the Department of Psychology at Princeton University is seeking a specialist in English morphology to work on the WordNet Project. Primary responsibility will be for the morphological aspects of WordNet. This includes inflectional and derivational morphology, e.g. identifying irregular inflectional relations so that when an inflected form is input the correct uninflected form is returned. For derivational morphology compiling exhaustive lists of derivationally related adjective-noun pairs, adjective-verb pairs, and noun-noun pairs and entering links into WordNet to represent the semantically similar senses of these derivationally related pairs. Other responsibilities include the disambiguation of WordNet definitions, e.g., inserting links between words in the definitions and the context-appropriate meanings of those words. Supervision of casual hourly programmers. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in linguistics and a record of publications in relevant research. Experience with morphological and semanitic analyses of data in the WordNet database is preferred. Rank and salary commensurate with qualifications. Position is 50% time.
