The Senior Software Engineer must also have at least 3 years of experience with JAVA; at least 2 years of experience with data mining, information retrieval, or automatic question-answering; at least 2 years experience with ontologies and knowledge representation; and at least 2 years of experience with natural language processing. Additionally, the individual must have at least 4 months experience (or training) in 4 of the following 8 areas: operating systems, computer theory, compiler design, artificial intelligence, database theory/design, computer algorithms, linear algebra, and numerical analysis. The prime tasks for this effort include: 1) Development of new algorithms based on input and guidance from R61 researchers, in the general areas of information extraction, data mining, information retrieval, automatic question answering, and natural language processing techniques. 2) Integration of new or existing algorithms into a variety of processing platforms, including autonomous systems. 3) Evaluation and testing of algorithms and software packages. 4) Development of enhancements to existing algorithms and software packages. 5) Development of web-based graphical user interfaces to assist with algorithm development and evaluation. 6) Development of databases to support the algorithm development and evaluation. 7) Provide status briefings, technical papers or reports, and demonstrations as required. Such briefings may require travel to one east coast and one west coast destination.
