University or Organization: Aoyama Gakuin University Department: Department of Englsih Rank of Job: Assistant professor/Lecturer Specialty Areas: Syntax, Semantics, Contrastive/Comparative Linguistics, or Language Variation Description: The Department of English at Aoyama Gakuin University, Tokyo Japan, has an opening for an Assistant Professor/Lecturer (depending on age and experience) of English Linguistics, with specialization in one or two of the following fields: syntax, semantics, contrastive/comparative linguistics, and language variation, starting in the academic year 2005 (April 1, 2005). The position can be converted to a tenured position. Minimum teaching load is 5 courses/classes a week, which include Freshman English courses and Linguistics courses. Depending on circumstances, there may be one or two additional courses. The person appointed will also be in charge of administrative activities, as are the other full-time faculty. The successful candidates must be a native speaker of English, have a Ph.D. in linguistics or a related field, and preferably a working knowledge of Japanese.
