MIDDLESEX UNIVERSITY Full-time Research Studentships in English Literature and English Language Funding opportunities for MPhil/PhD The School of Arts is offering two MPhil/PhD Studentships in the area of English Language and Literature. Applications are invited from outstanding students wishing to enrol for the degree of MPhil/PhD by full-time study. The successful candidates will hold either a first class or upper second class honours degree, and (normally) a Master's degree (or equivalent), in an appropriate field, and have demonstrable potential in one or more of our existing areas of research strength: - English Literature and Culture 1500-1700 - C20th English Literature and Culture - Translation Studies - English Language (including linguistics, especially sociolinguistics and pragmatics) The studentships provide tuition fees at the EU rate plus an annual living grant currently �11,000, for up to 3 years. APPLICATION All applicants should submit a letter of application (citing two academic referees), a full CV, and a research proposal of three to four A4 sides, double-spaced. The proposal should: - Outline the field of inquiry - Identify the topic and purpose of the study - Indicate the significance of the expected outcome - Include a short bibliography (no more than one side of A4) The closing date for applications is Tuesday 7th September 2004. Interviews will be held in late September 2004 and successful applicants will be expected to take up their awards in October 2004.
