Description:

Salary Range: $78,500 - $97,000

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is seeking a Director
of Translations to direct staff responsible for the translation and
proofreading of documents, and for providing interpretation services
to the Board of Education, staff, administrators and school site
personnel.

The Translations Unit is located at 333 South Beaudry in downtown Los
Angeles. The person selected must be willing to work occasional
weekends, evenings, and early mornings and travel to various locations
throughout the District. For more information about the Translations

The ideal candidate will be proactive, Spanish-English bilingual or
multilingual, and will have:
- strong administrative skills and experience
- excellent human relations skills
- excellent judgment and decision making skills
- excellent budget administration and analysis skills.

And the ability to:
- establish and maintain strong interoffice collaborative 
 working relationships
- delegate work and verify work completion
- organize, motivate and encourage employees and direct
 employee training
- represent the Translation Unit before groups or at meetings
- communicate effectively in both Spanish and English, both
 orally and in writing, in a manner appropriate for the
 purpose and parties addressed.

Minimum Requirements: Graduation from a recognized college or
university, preferably with a degree in communications, business or
public administration, public relations, a foreign language, or a
related field. Supervisory experience may be substituted for the
required education on a year-for-year basis. 3 yrs of professional
experience in oral and written translating, interpreting, and
composing or editing written materials in English and at least 1 other
language for dissemination or publication. 2 years of supervisory
experience is desirable.
