University or Organization: University at Buffalo, The State University of NY Department: Romance Languages & Literatures Rank of Job: Assistant Professor Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics, Hispanic Linguistics Required Language: Spanish (Code = SPN) Description: The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University at Buffalo announces a tenure-track (pending approval) search in Hispanic Linguistics. Appointee will teach courses (2/2 load) and direct graduate theses in area of specialization and teach occasional Gen Ed or language courses as the need may arise. Of special interest are strengths in syntax, sociolinguistics, and historical linguistics; comparative Romance linguistics is also desirable. Appointee will help expand major and graduate programs, seek external funding, promote interdisciplinary degree programs, and share administrative duties related to the programs. Candidates must 1) hold the Ph.D. or equivalent degree in an appropriate area of Hispanic linguistics, 2) possess native or near-native fluency in Spanish (additional Romance language is desirable), 3) have a demonstrable commitment to scholarship and excellence in teaching.
