Description:
In the second year of an initiative that will eventually add up to
sixteen professorial positions to our faculty, the Department
of English at Louisiana State University invites applications
for an anticipated tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant
or Associate Professor in Sociolinguistics.
Strongest consideration will be given to those applicants who contribute
most directly to our initiatives and on-going strengths. This new position
will support current curricula at the undergraduate level in Creative
Writing, Literary Studies, Secondary Education, and Writing and Culture, and
emerging curricula at the graduate level in Creative Writing, Linguistics,
Literary Studies, and Writing and Culture.
With a rich tradition in American Studies, the LSU English department has
also taken the lead in creating vibrant interdisciplinary programs in
Louisiana, Gulf Coast, and Caribbean Studies (http://www.lsu.edu/lacsp/)
and in Medieval and Renaissance Interdisciplinary Studies
(http://www.lsu.edu/faculty/maribel/). Ranging across the curricula-
teaching courses in composition, film, folklore, gender, rhetoric, etc.-
many English department faculty members pursue methodological interests
in Cultural Studies.
Required Qualifications: Earned Ph.D. in English, Linguistics, or related field;
evidence of innovation and excellence in teaching and research.
Additional Qualifications Desired: interdisciplinary approaches.
Competitive salary. Very attractive teaching load. Screening begins November
19, 2004, and will continue until candidates are selected. Applications
will be acknowledged in writing. Interviews will be conducted at the Modern
Language Association Convention in Philadelphia, PA, December 27-30, 2004.
