Intercultural Relations is an internationally recognized Master's Program with a
nineteen-year history of preparing professionals to work in intercultural
settings throughout the USA and around the world. This rigorous Program focuses
on the human dimension of intercultural interactions. Graduates contribute to
fostering mutual respect and cooperation among people from different backgrounds
in a variety of venues and organizations.
The mission of the Program is to train reflective scholar/practitioners and to
cultivate advanced professional skills in the understanding of intercultural
encounters and relationships for those who work professionally across cultures
in a variety of settings and fields, including advocacy, international
education, human services, not-for-profit organizations, business, academic
settings, and consulting work in both national and international contexts.
The community of the Intercultural Relations Program is vibrant and diverse,
with faculty, staff, and students from many different geographic
locations-people who have had interesting experiences across cultures and
national boundaries. We seek someone with the interest and commitment to join
our community and our efforts to increase global awareness and intercultural
understanding.
Qualifications:
- Ph. D. in field related to Intercultural Relations (particularly fields such as
sociolinguistics, anthropology, or social psychology)
- Interdisciplinary background and interests (strong evidence of this through
teaching and/or research)
- Strong background in intercultural communication or language and culture, as
demonstrated by advanced level teaching and/or publications
- Experience in qualitative field-based research
- Extensive international and/or intercultural experience
- Active professional involvement in fields related to intercultural relations
- Fluency in English; fluency in at least one additional language desirable
- Experience supervising students' independent work
- Passion for working with students from diverse backgrounds and learning styles
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Teaching courses to Master's candidates in Intercultural Relations (including
advanced level Intercultural Communications and qualitative research methods)
- Advising students on their study plans for degree completion
- Mentoring students on career directions in the Intercultural fields
- Supervising student internships and independent studies
- Participating in curriculum design and program implementation activities
- Working with a team of staff and faculty to ensure program excellence
- Willingness to participate in the administrative activities of the Program as
needed
- Participation in activities of the Division and the University
