Meeting Description:
The Department of Theoretical & Applied Linguistics, School of English,
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, organizes the 17th International Symposium
on Theoretical & Applied Linguistics and invites speakers to give spoken or
poster presentations in areas of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics. Each
research area will be equally represented and papers will be selected accordingly.
Presentations will be 20 minutes long and will be followed by a 10-minute
discussion.
The official languages of the Symposium will be English and Greek.

Meeting Description:
Conference on the teaching and learning of phonetics
PTLC2005 will take place at University College London from midday Wednesday
27th July until midday Saturday 30th July 2005. These dates are immediately
before the UCL Summer Course on English Phonetics
(http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/home/scep/), which will begin on Monday 1 August
on the same campus. We intend to provide accommodation bridging the two
events for participants attending both. The keynote speaker for the
conference will be David Crystal.
Papers for oral presentations of 20 minutes duration are invited. The
areas covered by the conference will include:
Teaching and learning in
- general phonetics
- pronunciation for EFL and other languages
- phonetics for clinical purposes, including audiology and speech and language
therapy
- phonetics for the performing arts
- phonetics for speech technology
Assessment methods for practical skills and theory in phonetics
Papers describing and evaluating the use of IT in any of the above areas
will also be welcome.
Please note that papers must be relevant to some aspect of the teaching and
learning of phonetics. Papers which deal with general phonetic description
or phonological analysis, but which do not have pedagogical relevance, will
not be accepted.
Submission deadlines
Abstract: An abstract not exceeding 300 words should be submitted by plain
text email ONLY to the following address: ptlc2005
phon.ucl.ac.uk
The deadline for abstract submission is Tuesday 1 February 2005. Abstracts
will be reviewed by an international scientific committee and a decision on
acceptance will be given by Thursday 31 March 2005.
Completed papers: The deadline for submission of completed papers is
Thursday 31 May 2005.
The conference proceedings will be published on CD-ROM and will be
available at registration.
