The School of English (comprising the Department of English Literature, the
Department of English Language and Linguistics and the National Centre for English
Cultural Tradition) is committed to research led teaching. Whilst the
Departments retain separate identities, they have a common management structure
and work closely together in both teaching and research. They were awarded '5'

Chair/Reader in Cinema and Film

The Department of English Literature is seeking to appoint an outstanding
scholar and teacher with a background of research and publication at international
level in any field of Cinema and Film study complementary to the interests of
the Department of English Literature and the School of English. This new
position is a key element in the continuing development of this area in the
University of Sheffield, where there is already a strong commitment to the study
of film across undergraduate and graduate programmes, and offers the successful
candidate outstanding opportunities to lead the expansion of Cinema and Film in
