University or Organization: University of Utah Department: Linguistics Rank of Job: Full Professor Specialty Areas: Endangered Languages Description: The Department of Linguistics at the University of Utah invites applications for a position at the rank of Professor to develop, seek external funds for, and direct a proposed center for endangered languages with an emphasis on Western North America. Tenure at the time of appointment is possible. The position begins 1 July 2004. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field, an outstanding research record on endangered languages of the Americas, and the proven ability to attract external funding and head a research team. Ability to teach introductory phonology would be a plus. The Department of Linguistics has strong undergraduate and graduate programs in theoretical and applied linguistics. (Please see the Department website at http://www.hum.utah.edu/linguistics for further information about us.) We also expect that the proposed center will foster interdisciplinary activity among campus groups such as the Inter-tribal Student Association, American Indian Studies, and the Center for the Study of Race and Diversity in Higher Education.
