University or Organization: Language Institute of Japan (LIOJ) Rank of Job: ALT/English Teacher Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics Required Language(s): English (Code = ENG) Description: Full-time English Teacher (public junior highs and language school) in Kanagawa Salary: 300,000 yen/month Starting date: orientation starts April 5, 2004, contract starts April 12, 2004 For 28 weeks during the academic year, team teach English as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) at three public junior high schools, and participate in school life. Teach English in residential programs conducted through the language school several times a year. These programs include courses for business professionals (small groups), a summer workshop for teachers of English, and 3-day courses for high school students (short camp-type events, large groups). Duties also include performing various administrative duties, and developing materials for programs. This position is for a teacher who enjoys working with a variety of students in an array of programs, is highly organized with short/long-term time management skills, is able to work independently, likes being part of a team, is keen to be active in professional development, and is flexible. It is a challenging position. University degree (MA preferred) and two years teaching both adults and teens required. Demonstrated interest in teaching teens is important because much of the position is dedicated to junior high classes. Excellent writing skills are also necessary. Sponsorship is available. 62 days paid vacation at set times, completion bonus, end of service transportation bonus, and paid orientation (at half salary). Assistance in locating housing.
