The Alaska Native Language Center has available a graduate research
assistantship for work through an NSF-funded grant to prepare language learning
materials for adults, and to help with transcription and translation of Aleut
texts. Remuneration is DOE and degree completion plus tuition and fees. Position
is funded from September 1, 2005 through August 31, 2007. The research assistant
is employed for 20 hours/week over the 9-month academic year and full-time
during the summer.
Work will include especially language materials preparation and curriculum
development in Aleut. Work may also include fieldwork, text collection,
transcription and translation, analysis, and language elicitation. Preference
will be given to students with a demonstrated interest in Aleut,language
endangerment, or language materials development.
Minimum qualifications: must have adequate training and experience in
linguistics and/or second-language learning. Ability to work with audio and
video files and demonstrated language research preferred. (Knowledge of Russian
is advantageous but not required.)
