University or Organization: Thammasat University Department: Linguistics Job Rank: Instructor Specialty Areas: General Linguistics; Applied Linguistics Description: The Department of Linguistics of the Faculty of Liberal Arts, Thammasat University, in Bangkok, Thailand, is seeking candidates for two full-time instructor positions, starting in October or November 2005. For the first position, candidates must have been conferred an MA or PhD degree in Linguistics or Applied Linguistics when the application is lodged. As for the second position, we are looking for an MA holder in Applied Linguistics, Language Teaching, TESOL or related fields. Preference will be given to native speakers of English with a distinguished academic record (plus extensive teaching experience, if any). The employment agreement is renewable on an annual basis. The base monthly salary for this position is 22,248 baht plus an 8,000 baht housing allowance. The application deadline is 2 September 2005. To apply, please send us the following documents: 1.An application pack, which means a curriculum vitae and another letter delineating your personal information, academic background and interests in more detail, as well as any contribution you think may benefit linguistic studies and research in Thailand and Southeast Asia. 2.Copies of all degree certificates, diplomas and certificates. 3.Copies of transcripts of tertiary grade results. Candidates from British, Australian or New Zealand institutions who are unable to produce MA or PhD grade results in alphabetic or numerical form, please send us an official proof of degree completion issued by your university's registry. 4.Three letters of reference. Two of the referees must be past instructors or thesis supervisors. Apart from stating their familiarity with your work and interests, they should also evaluate your personal character and ability to coordinate with colleagues, etc. 5.Three passport photos. In the case of e-mailed applications, we only accept passport photos through the post. 6.Samples of published work. (if any) Application packs can be submitted by post or e-mail. Please note that regardless of the outcome of the application, all supporting documents will not be returned to you. A face-to-face or telephone interview may be necessary and will be arranged only at the applicant's expense. The Department of Linguistics at Thammasat University is the oldest in Thailand and the only to offer a bachelor's degree in Linguistics as well as a master's degree which focuses on Linguistics for Communication and a PhD degree in Linguistics. The Department also publishes the Journal of Language and Linguistics. The Journal is the only specialized linguistics publication of its type in Thailand. It provides a forum for publication of original articles in any area of language, linguistics and language teaching.
