Subject: Obituary: Olga S. Kulagina
30th August 2005, in Moscow, after heavy disease, Prof. Olga Sergeevna Kulagina died. She was one of the pioneers of the modern mathematical linguistics and the theory of machine translation. Her work about the definition of the main grammatical notions on the base of the mathematical set theory (1957) was the source of the Soviet mathematical linguistics (model-theoretical linguistics), and, generally speaking, algebraic models in linguistics in general. Among her other works several books about the French-Russian automatic translation systems should be mentioned. Olga S. Kulagina worked in the Institute of Applied Mathematics, Russian Academy of Sciences. Sergej A. Krylov
