University or Organization: University of Texas-Pan American Department: English Job Rank: Assistant Professor Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics; ESL Testing / Semantics Description: Linguistics: Assistant Professor, tenure-track, position No. F05/06-14. Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics or closely related field required. Graduate coursework in theoretical and applied areas of linguistics and demonstrates evidence of scholarship in an applied area of linguistics desired. Preferred: theoretical emphasis in semantics and/or applied emphasis in second language qualitative and quantitative measurements/ESL testing, language competency testing & international/national standards; experience teaching introductory and applied linguistics; experience working with minority students, teaching ESL, developmental writing and/or reading; interest in distance learning, web-based and computer-assisted instruction. Tenure-track position begins Fall 2006. Applications are invited from candidates with strong records and potential as teachers and scholars. We are looking for colleagues with an interest in and enthusiasm for developing new programs and curricula in a rapidly growing and expanding department.
