University or Organization: Mississippi State University Job Rank: Assistant Professor Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics; Language Acquisition; TESOL Required Language(s): English (eng) Description: Tenure-track position for assistant professor of linguistics to begin in fall 2006, pending funding. PhD in linguistics (or in English with linguistics concentration) and college teaching experience required. Primary teaching responsibilities will include courses required for the TESOL certification program, especially Approaches to TESOL, Second-Language Acquisition, and English Syntax, and possibly sophomore-level literature surveys. The successful candidate will carry a 2-2 teaching assignment in the first year, then a 3-2 assignment in subsequent years. Research interests are open, but TESOL or SLA will be preferred. Publications and professional service are required for tenure and promotion. Salary will be competitive. Affordable and comfortable faculty housing is usually available in the first two years of employment. Mississippi State University is a Carnegie Doctoral/Research-Extensive institution with approximately 16,000 students on the main campus.
