University or Organization: University of Massachusetts Boston Department: Hispanic Studies Job Rank: Assistant Professor Specialty Areas: General Linguistics; Phonetics; Phonology; Semantics; Syntax; Translation Required Language: Spanish (spa) Description: The Department of Hispanic Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Spanish Linguists to start September, 2006. PhD required. Prepared to teach specialized courses, such as translation studies, language arts, syntax, and grammar and composition for native speakers. Knowledge of current linguistic theory as it relates to Spanish as a first and second language. Expected to contribute to UMass Boston's General Education program. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English required. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to scholarship and to teaching excellence in an urban public university. Applications should contain a cover letter, a current CV, 3 letters of recommendation, and a brief statement about your scholarship and teaching philosophy.
