University or Organization: University of North Carolina at Charlotte Department: English [Applied Linguistics Program] Job Rank: Assistant Professor Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics; Sociolinguistics; English for Specific Purposes Description: UNC Charlotte's Department of English welcomes applications for a tenure-track position, at the level of Assistant Professor, in Applied Linguistics with particular expertise in sociolinguistics, TESOL, and English for Specific Purposes (some background in language and law or in language and medical professions will be considered a plus). Applicants must have the Ph.D. in hand prior to August 2006, the contractual starting date. The teaching load of three courses per semester includes undergraduate and graduate courses in the advertised areas; we also advise ESL students working on M.Ed. theses and projects. The department offers Bachelor's and Master's degrees (the latter with tracks in Applied Linguistics and, soon, ESP); we also participate in a doctoral program in Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is a doctoral/research intensive university located in a dynamic and expanding metropolitan area.
