University or Organization: University of Arizona Department: Spanish and Portuguese Job Rank: Assistant Professor Specialty Areas: Language Acquisition; Spanish as a second and as a heritage language Required Language(s): Spanish (spa) Description: The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Arizona invites applications for a tenure-system position in Hispanic Linguistics to begin in Fall 2006 with a focus on acquisition of Spanish as a second language and Spanish for Heritage Learners. Expertise in Spanish of the Southwest is desirable. Duties will include: teaching courses in Hispanic linguistics at the undergraduate and graduate level, administering the Department's program of Spanish for Heritage Learners, contributing to the Department's new doctoral major in Border Studies, teaching in the University of Arizona's core curriculum, and outreach to the local heritage learners' teaching community. The Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Hispanic linguistics at the time of appointment, evidence of teaching excellence and scholarly achievement or significant scholarly potential. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish is required. Review of candidates will begin on November 15, 2005.
