University or Organization: University of Michigan Department: Linguistics Job Rank: Assistant Professor Specialty Areas: Sociolinguistics Description: The Department of Linguistics at the University of Michigan invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in sociolinguistics to begin September 2006. Under exceptional circumstances more senior candidates may be considered. In keeping with the department's interdisciplinary perspective, we especially encourage applications from candidates who are committed to conducting innovative research that connects sociolinguistics to theories of human cognition and/or computational models of language. The ideal candidate will complement and build on existing strengths within the department, and will be eager to interact with students and faculty from the broader linguistic community at the University of Michigan. A Ph.D. by the beginning of the appointment is required. Applications should be sent to the address below. Please include a letter of application, curriculum vitae, research statement, one or more representative publications, and evidence of teaching excellence. Please also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to the address above. (Senior candidates should instead provide names of references.)
