Subject: Obituary for Professor Terry Crowley

I regret to inform Linguist List readers that Prof Terry Crowley, Waikato
University, New Zealand, passed away on the weekend of 15/16 January 2005
aged 51. Prof Crowley was well-known for his research on Australian
Aboriginal languages, Oceanic languages (especially those of Vanuatu),
pidgins and creoles (particularly Bislama and Cape York Creole), and
historical linguistics. His textbook ''Introduction to Historical
Linguistics'' has been widely adopted. Prof Crowley is survived by family
in Australia.
