University or Organization: University of Chicago Department: Linguistics Job Rank: Lecturer Specialty Areas: African Languages Required Language(s): Swahili (swh) Description: The Linguistics Department of the University of Chicago invites applications for a full-time position of Lecturer in Swahili beginning in the autumn quarter of 2006. The initial appointment will be for one year, with an expectation of a renewal for a second, two-year period, followed by subsequent three-year contracts. Graduate training in linguistics is a prerequisite; a PhD is preferred. Native or near-native command of Swahili is required, and experience in teaching Swahili at the college level is a strong plus. The expected teaching load is SIX quarter-courses per year, one of which may be a linguistics course. A complete application will include a CV, the names and contact information for three professional references, and a complete description of relevant teaching experience, as well as a statement regarding linguistic interests and a sample of publications in Linguistics or on Swahili. Applications will be reviewed beginning January 30, 2006, and will be accepted until the position is filled. Materials should be sent to the address below.
